Named for the watchtowers overlooking sugarcane fields in Trinidad town, the Trinidad Vigia is known as a cigar of choice for power brokers and financiers.
For Cuban lovers, the Vigia is a long-admired blend and offers mild strength with medium to full flavor.
Trinidad Vigia Overview
At 4.3” and a ring gauge of 54, this is a short, stout stick from one of the most well-respected cigar houses in all of Cuba. With a meatiness you can sink your teeth into and a touch of sweetness on the retrohale, the Vigia moves competently from first light to nub.
Smoking a Trinidad Vigia
The Colorado Claro wrapper of the Trinidad Vigia has invisible seams and very few veins, with a slight spring to the touch. The wrapper smells of hay and pepper and has the renowned pigtail cap of the Trinidad brand.
The stick fires up quickly with a medium body and lots of smoke. The tastes are bready and sweet with a dash of white pepper rounding it off. An umami meatiness is introduced, balancing well with the coffee and strengthening pepper.
The retrohale is worth mentioning at this point, as it’s rare to find a stick that’s improved by the flavor of its retrohale, but this one is an exception.
Through the middle third, the cigar grows in flavor until it reaches a medium level – an outstanding flavor that leaves a slight sizzle on the tongue.
As with all Trinidad offerings, the Vigia is a celebrated and consistent blend that maintains a terrific balance of intriguing flavors. After three or more years in the humidor, this stick leaves behind any bitter almond tastes and just gets better.
Trinidad Vigia Experience
This short Robusto provides a lot of exciting flavors and only takes a short time to smoke. Taking about an hour, the Trinidad Vigia has a lot of savoriness, which balances well with creamy coffee and a nutty finish.
