Smoking a Montecristo Petit Edmundo
This is a thick, short cigar with an oily wrapper that shows a few blemishes. These only add to the stick’s charm.
The medium tight roll makes for an open draw, and when you smell the Petit Edmundo before pre-light, it is reminiscent of sweet hay notes with a pinch of pepper. The pre-draw gives you a taste of what’s to come with distinctive hints of sweet tobacco present. Experienced smokers will recognise that the Montecristo Petit Edmundo is without the “Cuban funk,” a noted mustiness sometimes present in Cuban-rolled cigars.
After lighting up you’re hit with caramel as well as a touch of anise. After some of the spiciness dissipates in the second third, you can detect dark chocolate, which blends nicely with the cedary notes.
The Petit Edmundo isn’t rolled as tightly as its longer counterpart, the Edmundo, and the burn can sometimes get off-kilter halfway through, after about 15 to 20 minutes of burn-time.
The Petit Edmundo peaks at about 25 minutes and rolls into the denouement, a sultry blend of potpourri and other floral notes.

The Petit Edmundo ages well in a humidor with the aromas intensifying and becoming more complex as the cigar firms. Like all the Montecristo classics, the Petit Edmundo deserves to be savored and pairs very well with aged rums and after heavy fare.

The Petit Edmundo’s short silhouette makes it look diminutive compared to the other sticks in the Montecristo lineup, but it packs a punch in terms of flavor.
