Smoking a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2
The first third has heavy cedar and honey notes laced with black pepper and floral notes. Lemon undertones begin to emerge in the second third, although the ongoing cedar and musk sometimes overshadow them - experienced palates can definitely find more nuance here. The final third continues the cedar and musk in a finish that is not overpowering.
While there are plenty of subtly sweet notes throughout, the savory and spicy notes are enough to please all medium-bodied cigar smokers. This is a mild cigar that still packs enough flavor to be memorable, even if you’re used to something more potent and robust.
Try pairing an Epicure No 2 with either a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Sauvignon Blanc. Although you can also pair it with an old fashioned or other whiskey drink, the mild notes of this cigar allow it to pair with wine better than most cigars.
