Description

According to the historical books, the Trinidad brands were first produced in a small factory located somewhere in Havana way back in the year 1969. But as you will quickly realize there still remains a lot of historical facts. That the general public is not aware of over the many years after the El Laguito Company was founded. The major reason to explain this can be attributed to the many decades of cold-war the tiny nation of Cuba has had with her Capitalist neighbor, The USA. As a matter of fact most of us are only well aware that there great and excellent cigars coming from Cuba. What very few of us realize is that the name Trinidad encompasses two very different brands of cigars: One made for Habanos SA in Cuba and the other made in the Dominican Republic for Altadis.

History

In the early 90’s the outside world began to really appreciate of the secretive world of Cuban cigars and this was made possible all thanks to a former manager of the El Laguito Company. He startled the entire Cigar indulging world by remarking that the Trinidad brand, which was by far the superior brand in the world, not just in Cuba, had been decreed by the long-serving president of Cuba to not be for sale. Yes, the sale of any Trinidad brand was against the law and if you were found selling it in the already thriving black market then the repercussions were severely dire. Actually, it was not until very recently that many of those people who had been jailed in this tiny-communist nation were freed by the new, incumbent leader, the brother of Fidel Castro. But as is common with most of what comes out and leaves this troubled nation that was once willing to go and stage an all out war with their by far superior neighbor, The US, this claims were disproved by Castro himself in his autobiography, My Life. He claimed that he actually knew very little about the so-called Trinidad’s and according to his knowledge, the only cigars that were presented as gifts or as tokens of appreciation to visiting friendly diplomats and other very important emissaries were the Cohibas only. In a colorful ceremony, however, in 1998 held in Havanna, Cuba, the Trinidad set of products were finally formally released into the worldwide market. As you would expect this cigars were fondly and enthusiast received by the Cuban smokers world and in the same year they debuted in the nations like Canada and Mexico they rose to quickly become the best selling cigars of all time. The Trinidad Fundarore was the first brand to hit the market and its name has a loose but accurate translation implying the founder and it was available in only one size. In no time and buoyed by the success of their first product launch the Cubans were at it again and this time round they were going all out. They released the ring finger sized Cohiba Lancero which was measuring 7and three quarter inches or 195mm. This particular brand bears a special connotation to the Cubans and to the world at large as it happens to have been named after one of the most picturesque, beautiful town of Cuba and it is only produced in one location. A location that was begun way back in 1969 and which still bears the name of El Laguita.
